UCO offers new combined online, on-site curriculumMay 17, 2007 -- EDMOND, OK - The University of Central Oklahoma has formed a joint venture with the Oklahoma Technology Institute to offer a blend of online learning and traditional classroom professional education certificate programs. With the new program, students will have the ability to attend classes and labs on-site, online or as a combination of online and in the classroom. The joint venture is designed for students whose commitments prevent them from attending the traditional classroom schedule and setting. Dan Donaldson, assistant vice president of UCO's Distance and Executive Education, said the first students enrolled under the collaborative were Tinker Air Force Base military personnel. "They serve as a perfect example of people who need flexibility but still want the support of labs and traditional classroom that students have available to them," Donaldson said. Professional education certificate programs available include Computer Support Basics, Web Development, Database and System Administration, System Engineering, IT Security, Accounting, A+, Network+ and Insurance Billing and Coding. "The partnership between UCO and OTI is an example of how schools across the layers of education can join forces to provide what the community needs," said Paul Shuler, Director of Oklahoma Technology Institute. Established in 1996, Oklahoma Technology Institute, 9801 N. Broadway Extension in Oklahoma City, offers programs in Medical Insurance Coding and Billing, Computerized Accounting, Web Design, Microsoft Certified Database Administration, Microsoft Certified System Administration and Microsoft Certified System Engineering.
